Lynette Gillies was a proud mother, mother-in-law and grandmother. Her zest for life, her enthusiasm and her strong faith energised and uplifted everyone who met her. Despite her illness, she was so positive, always looking forward, never back.
A tireless fundraiser, Lynette and her son Steve Clark organised the annual Run 4 Jess, in association with Girraween Athletics Club to benefit C5c Oncology Ward at Westmead Hospital. The event honours the memory of Steve’s late wife Jess, who passed away in early 2013. Over the past 9 years, the event has purchased patient information systems and medical equipment, as well as patient and carer comforts for the ward.
Lynette was very active in the community, with her beloved athletics and cross training, as well as crafting hats for premature babies in the neonatal intensive care unit, and handmade quilts, which were raffled to benefit patients in the Crown Princess Mary Cancer Centre at Westmead.
It is very hard to say goodbye to someone like Lynette, who reminded us at every meeting to believe in the infinite goodness of people. Although there are tears that she is no longer with us, we will always have a piece of our hearts that smile at the memory of Lynette, and the many lives she touched.
